Jadestone returns to Stag drilling as cyclone Veronica weakens

Jadestone Energy has restarted drilling operations at its Stag oilfield located offshore Australia following the weakening of tropical cyclone Veronica. 

Jadestone, a 100% owner and operator of the producing Stag oil field, said in early March it would drill the first Stag well in six years during March. The company secured the Ensco 107 jack-up rig for the Stag infill drilling campaign. The first well in the campaign was named Stag 49-H well.

The rig arrived at its location at the Stag platform on March 15, 2019. Preparations for drilling progressed on schedule, when operations were paused on March 25 due to severe weather conditions related to tropical cyclone Veronica. Both the rig and platform were made safe and de-manned, ready to resume operations once conditions improve.

On Tuesday, April 2 Jadestone said that, following the weakening of tropical cyclone Veronica, personnel had returned to the field and have undertaken a thorough inspection of the facilities.

Drilling operations with the Ensco 107 jack-up rig have now restarted on well 49-H. The donor well Stag 14-H has been re-entered and cleaned out, inner casing has been cut and retrieved, and new well activities are underway.

Jadestone added that the Stag 49-H well would take approximately 34 days to drill, and is targeting approximately 1.2mmbbls of unswept 2P oil reserves in a higher-pressure area of the Stag oilfield, just west of the platform.
