Pipeline Technology Conference (ptc) from 2020 onwards with additional program and larger exhibition

By raafat ibrahim
Europe’s leading pipeline conference and exhibition, the annual ptc in Berlin, is over again growing by more than 20 percent this year, as in previous years. The result: an expanded conference program and a noticeably larger exhibition area. In this way, the organizer aims to meet the constantly increasing demand for international exchange on all aspects of pipelines.
The Pipeline Technology Conference, Europe’s most important pipeline event, will enter its 15th round at the end of March. ptc is essential for the global pipeline industry in order to find out about the latest technological developments and solutions.
The continuously increasing numbers of participants and exhibitors are proof of the unbroken demand for this platform whose internationality is a significant unique selling point: “About two thirds of the participants come from abroad. The largest increase is from Asia and Eastern Europe, mainly from pipeline operators. Furthermore, with our focus on promoting young talents, we are reaching not only decision-makers but also an increasing number of prospective managers and students from all over the world,” says Dennis Fandrich, Chairman of ptc and responsible for the conference.
The organizer EITEP Institute from Hanover is aiming for a new record: “We are now expecting around 900 participants and 90 exhibitors. In fact, we have had to expand the exhibition area several times to accommodate all interested parties,” emphasizes Marian Ritter, responsible for the exhibition and overall organization at ptc.
However, the attending pipeline operators is the most valuable key figure. EITEP’s President Dr Klaus Ritter explains: “Operators are always looking for new and improved technologies to meet the challenges in their transport and distribution networks. I am therefore pleased that we can expect delegations from more than 80 operators from all over the world at our event in 2020”.
With its focus on technological aspects of the pipeline industry, ptc offers experts the opportunity to present solutions to technical challenges, raise new technological questions and exchange views on future needs and trends in the industry.
Participants will have the first opportunity to do so on Monday, 30 March. On this day, seminars will be held to give small groups deeper insights into specific topics. Each seminar is led by a recognized expert. Classic topics here are inline inspection and life cycle extension, which are always a topic in the industry. More recent offers address, for example, the ever-increasing challenges associated with Difficult to Inspect Pipelines and Illegal Tapping.
The main conference will start with a keynote speech by ENTSOG President Stephan Kamphues on “Innovative Projects Platform of the European Gas Pipeline Operators – Paving the Way for a Decarbonized European Gas Grid”. The subsequent plenary session “Eurasian Pipeline Forum – Linking East and West” and the panel discussion “Safety in Design and Construction of Pipelines” will again be attended by well-known pipeline operators and technology providers who will exchange views on the topics mentioned.
Then it’s time for the real thing: Over 100 presentations in 6 parallel series of lectures are available to participants. All aspects along the pipeline lifecycle will be addressed: From planning, construction, operation and maintenance, to digitization strategies and issues related to municipal distribution and disposal networks. The presentations run until the last day, Thursday, April 2 – interrupted only by the two traditional and popular social events, the Get-Together on Tuesday and the Dinner Invitation on Wednesday.
The core event will conclude with another plenary session “World Pipeline Outlook” with an outlook from the IEA (International Energy Agency) and an overview of current developments in Latin America, Eastern Europe and the offshore project Trans Adriatic Pipeline. The concluding panel discussion will focus on the central future topic “The Energy Mix of Tomorrow: Future Fuels in the Pipeline”, on which representatives from Equinor, Siemens, Baker Hughes, Snam and Store&Go will exchange views.
The ptc 2020 pays attention to the area of promoting young talents. With the focus on “Working in the Pipeline Industry”, the fair will primarily address students and prospective managers who will be given the opportunity to actively participate in ptc and to take part in a student competition.
Due to its wealth of content and the accompanying exhibition, the ptc offers added value to every pipeline professional. Anyone wishing to delve even deeper into the subject matter will have the opportunity to do so in practice-oriented workshops or closed discussion groups especially for operators.
The Pipeline Technology Conference (ptc) is thus rightly described as one of Europe’s leading events for the pipeline industry.
