RNLI lifeboat evacuates crewman from Maersk Laser anchor handler

A lifeboat from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) has evacuated a crewman from Maersk Supply Service’s anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel.

RNLI said that the Bon Accord lifeboat was paged shortly after 7:00 PM on Sunday, April 7, to assist the Maersk Laser AHTS with a crew member requiring medical transfer to a hospital ashore.

The all-weather lifeboat was put to sea with a volunteer crew of seven and met Maersk Laser some five miles southeast of Aberdeen.

When the vessel arrived on the scene, two casualty-care trained crew members were transferred to the Maersk Laser to assess and care for the casualty.

The crewman was transferred to the lifeboat which returned to its base in Aberdeen Harbour, where the casualty was able to walk to a waiting ambulance.

The lifeboat was refueled and readied for service by 8:45 PM and Maersk Laser was able to continue its passage north.

Davie Orr, helmsman of the vessel, said: “We were quickly able to put casualty care crew aboard the vessel and assess symptoms. When I sought advice from A&E (Accident and Emergency), it came quickly and allowed us to bring the gentleman ashore for onward transfer to the health services ashore.”

It is worth reminding that the Maersk Laser was hired for the moving of the Safe Caledonia accommodation rig along with the Maersk Lancer, Siem Pearl, and Skandi Skansen.

According to data from Westshore, all vessels were expected to start work on April 8.
